Black Friday Ads, Deals & Sales

Comprehensive guide for Black Friday. See Ads, Sales, Deals and Thanksgiving Sales from more than 150 stores. Black Friday and Cyber Monday will likely be the biggest shopping days. Here's everything you need to know about them.

Black Friday 2018 will take place on November 23rd this year, which is the day after Thanksgiving. While that is the official start date of Black Friday, many deals will actually begin in early November. Additionally, Black Friday’s date is much earlier in November than usual (it will take place on November 29th next year), so all of the 2018 leaks and store news will come sooner as well.

Here is your definitive guide to Black Friday 2018 sales times for Amazon, Best Buy BBY -1.04%, Kohl’s, Target TGT -2.25% And Walmart WMT -0.24%

Pre-Black Friday Sales Could Begin In Late October

Last year, the combined Office Depot & OfficeMax (review last year’s ad - Office Depot's 8-Page Black Friday Ad) held a pre-Black Friday sale that started on October 29th. It turned out to be a dud and used the term ‘Black Friday’ in name only. Other stores may attempt to follow in their footsteps in 2018, but I recommend holding off until at least November before you start shopping supposed ‘Black Friday’ sales.

Amazon’s ‘Countdown to Black Friday’ Event Will Probably Start November 1st

While it has not yet announced a date, Amazon (review last year’s ad - Amazon's 5-Page Black Friday Ad) is likely to begin its annual ‘Countdown to Black Friday’ event on November 1st. This is also the day Amazon opens its Black Friday Deals Store. This sale has seen some pretty good deals in the past, but it is nothing more than a glorified pre-Black Friday sale. I recommend you proceed with caution and wait until later in November to do the bulk of your shopping.

The Real Black Friday Deals Will Begin Thanksgiving Week

Most in-store sales are probably not going to start until Thanksgiving Day, but online Black Friday sales will begin as early as Monday, November 19th. Here are my predictions for when the most popular retailers will start their sales.

Amazon - As previously mentioned, Amazon is likely going to start its Countdown to Black Friday sale on November 1st. It will probably begin its ‘Black Friday Week’ event on Friday, November 16th, which is around the time the better deals start. Regardless, I recommend holding off until Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday for the best doorbusters. (review last year’s ad - Amazon's 5-Page Black Friday Ad)

Best Buy - If prior years are any indication, Best Buy will start its in-store sale at 5 pm on Thanksgiving Day in 2018. Last year, it actually closed at 1 am on Black Friday Friday morning before reopening at 8 am. Best Buy could use a similar format this year in order to create a bit of separation between its Thanksgiving sale and Black Friday sale. (Review last year’s ad - Best Buy's 50-Page Black Friday Ad)

Kohl’s - Last year, Kohl’s opened at 5 pm on Thanksgiving after previously opening at 6 pm. I expect it to stick to the 5 pm time again this year, with online deals being available the entire day on Thursday. There is also a good chance Kohl’s offers Black Friday deals online as early as Monday, November 19th. (Review last year’s ad - Kohl's 64-Page Black Friday Ad)

Target - I expect Target to start its in-store Black Friday sale on Thanksgiving Day at 6 pm this year. Online deals will be available all day on Thursday and Friday, with some deals remaining live for the weekend. Target usually has an early-access event on the day it releases its ad scan, which should be around November 5th. (Review last year’s ad - Target's 36-Page Black Friday Ad)

Walmart - As it has done in previous years, I understand Walmart will start its in-store Black Friday sale on Thanksgiving Day at 6 pm. Despite the pressure to open earlier, Walmart seems to be locked into the 6 pm time on Thursday. It will hold online Black Friday sales for the duration of Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, with some deals being available the entire weekend through Cyber Monday. (Review last year’s ad - Walmart's 32-Page Black Friday Ad)

Best Buy 'Black Friday' 2018 Ad Preview: Expected iPhone, Galaxy, PS4, Xbox, HDTV Deals

Best Buy BBY -1.04% is a master of Black Friday. Like Walmart, its sales get bigger every year and Best Buy’s Black Friday 2018 deals will be full of doorbusters. Better still, it is possible to predict Best Buy’s headline sales thanks to its consistent historical data. So here are the deals you should look out for…

Note: here are my Black Friday 2018 guides for Walmart (here), Target (here), Amazon (here), Apple (details) and Samsung (details).

Best Buy’s Best Black Friday Tech Deals Last Year

To understand what type of deals will be in Best Buy’s ad this year, you should refer to the 50-page Black Friday ad scan it dropped last year. Here were last year’s best sales:

Sharp 50" Class LED 2160 Smart 4k Ultra HD TV Roku for $179.99 (save $320) - review deal
Google Home Mini Chalk with $10 Best Buy Gift Card for $29.99  (save $19.01) - review deal

Toshiba 55-inch 4K Ultra TV for $279.99 (save $220) - review deal
Save up to $200 off Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus with Qualified Activation - review deal
Does this give us enough information to infer what deals will be available for Best Buy’s Black Friday 2018 sale? Yes, it does.

What To Expect From Best Buy’s Black Friday 2018 Sales

Best Buy's Black Friday sale follows a predictable format every year, so through a combination of historical analysis and specialists’ tip-offs, I expect the following deals:

Save $200 on the Apple iPhone XR with Qualified Activation
Save $300 on Samsung Galaxy Note9, Galaxy S9, or Galaxy S9+ with Qualified Activation
50-Inch 4K TV for $169.99 (decent brand)
55-inch 4K TV for $219.99 (decent brand)
Apple MacBook Air 13.3-inch Display for $674
Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-inch Display for $1,049
Apple iPad 9.7-inch Display for $229
Sony PS4 Pro Bundles for $274.99
Microsoft Xbox One X Bundles for $399.99
Like other retailers, Best Buy will update its doorbusters for the latest generation technology from Apple, Samsung, Sony, Microsoft and others. The HDTVs and consoles will be big sellers, and while Walmart will offer big iPhone and Galaxy gift card deals, Best Buy is likely to offer direct cash discounts.

Best Buy Black Friday 2018 Tips:

Black Friday Ad Release - In recent years, Best Buy's Black Friday ad has been released after Target and before Walmart. Last year, Best Buy posted its ad during the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 8th. For 2018, I expect Best Buy to post its ad very early on Wednesday, November 7th. Black Friday is a day earlier this year, so all of the major ads should be released a day earlier. As always, Best Buy is likely to offer some of the best deals on electronics, with TVs being the highlight. The ad should be around 50 pages again, with an assortment of deals involving video games, smartphones, and cameras. Best Buy has been known to bundle TVs with video game consoles, so I am expecting a package involving a television with either an Xbox One X or a PS4 Pro. Unlike other retailers, Best Buy offered direct discounts on last year's iPhone models, so there is a very real chance it features non-gift card deals on the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

Sale Days and Times - Best Buy has started its in-store Black Friday sale at 5pm on Thanksgiving Day in recent years, and I am expecting the same start time for 2018. Last year, it closed at 1am on Black Friday morning and reopened at 8am for another round of doorbusters. Best Buy should follow a similar plan again. Like other retailers, it will offer online Black Friday deals throughout Thanksgiving Day and Friday, with deals extending the entire weekend. There should even be an assortment of pre-Black Friday sales during Thanksgiving week.

Free Shipping - In recent years, Best Buy has offered free shipping on all orders throughout the entire holiday season. This has extended to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which has given Best Buy a massive advantage over Walmart and Amazon when it comes to free shipping terms. Walmart's free shipping minimum is $35, while Amazon's minimum for non-Prime members is $25. While it has not announced it yet, I fully expect Best Buy to offer free shipping on all orders for the duration of the 2018 holiday season.

Best Buy Cyber Monday - Best Buy does not have an official Cyber Monday ad scan anymore, but it does detail some of its Cyber Week deals in its weekly flyer. Last year, the ad was released on November 26. I expect the 2018 iteration to be posted on November 25. While it is unlikely to provide a full listing of Best Buy's 2018 Cyber Monday deals, it will provide a solid preview of what to expect. Additionally, many of Best Buy's Black Friday deals will also be available on Cyber Monday.

I will be tracking Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 deals in detail and publishing the best offers daily, so be sure to bookmark or hit the Follow button for instant updates on my page.

Samsung 'Black Friday' 2018 Deals Preview: Best Galaxy Smartphone, Tablet, HDTV Sales

When it comes to the best iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Watch deals you have to look away from Apple who largely shuns the holiday period and chase down alternative sources (guide here). But Samsung loves the holiday season. Across Black Friday 2018 the latest Galaxy smartphones, tablets and HDTVs will all be heavily discounted from both retailers and Samsung direct. And these are the big deals you can expect…

Best Samsung Black Friday Deals Last Year

If you are looking for an idea of where to start predicting deals for Samsung.com’s Black Friday sale, it’s a good idea to take a look at the 14-page Black Friday ad it released last year. But in addition to the offerings actually released by Samsung.com, you will find that the Amazon Black Friday ad, Best Buy Black Friday ad, Target Black Friday ad, and Walmart Black Friday ad all featured Samsung’s most popular items. Here are some of the best Samsung Black Friday sales from last year:

Save $300 on Samsung Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ at Best Buy - review deal
Free $300 Gift Card with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8, or Galaxy S8+ with activation at Target - review deal
Free $300 Gift Card with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8, or Galaxy S8 Plus with activation at Walmart - review deal
Samsung 11.6-inch Chromebook Intel Celeron 2GB Memory for $99 (save $80) at Best Buy - review deal
Samsung - 2.1-Channel Soundbar System with 6.5-inch Wireless Subwoofer - Black for $139.99 (save 50%) at Best Buy - review deal
Samsung UN55MU8000 55-inch 4K Ultra HD smart TV for $897.99 at Amazon - review deal
Samsung UN65MU8000 65-inch 4K Ultra HD smart TV for $1,297.99 at Amazon - review deal
Buy Samsung Gear 360 for $229.99 and Receive Gear VR Free at Samsung.com - review deal
Save up to $400 on Samsung Galaxy Note8 64GB (Unlocked) When You Trade-in an Eligible Smartphone at Samsung.com - review deal
Save up to $400 on Samsung Galaxy S8+ 64GB (Unlocked) When You Trade-in an Eligible Smartphone at Samsung.com - review deal

What To Expect From Samsung's Black Friday 2018 Sales

The importance of analysing last year’s Samsung Black Friday sales is both Samsung and the company’s retailers follow a predictable annual pattern. Consequently, having spoken with industry insiders, I expect the following Samsung deals to be Black Friday doorbusters in 2018:

Save $300 on Samsung Galaxy Note9, Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ with Qualified Activation at Best Buy
Free $300 Gift Card with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ with activation at Target
Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ or Note9 - $350 Walmart Gift Card when activating a new instalment plan at Walmart
Samsung 8GB Galaxy Tab E Lite 7.0 for $65
Samsung 16GB Samsung 8-inch Galaxy Tab A Bundle for $90
Hundreds Off Premium 4k Samsung TVs - notably 55-inch and 65-inch models
While it is impossible to call the specific HDTV models which will go on sale (Samsung has too many to mention), there has been a focus on its larger, premium ranges for headline deals in recent years. That said, the other big focus point will be the Galaxy range, particularly the Galaxy Note9 which has significant upgrades from last year and killer battery life.

Black Friday Ad Release - Unlike Apple, Samsung.com does release an official list of Black Friday deals. Expect Samsung.com to reveal its deals around Sunday, November 11th. Samsung usually releases its deals about a week before they go live. With its Black Friday deals, you should also see a good list of Pre-Black Friday sales. As mentioned, also remember to check out the ad scans of Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart which I expect to be released on November 14th, November 7th, November 5th and November 8th respectively.

Sale Days and Times - Samsung.com will most likely run its sales in stages with Pre-Black Friday deals beginning around November 12th, the first set of Black Friday deals becoming available online on November 19th and the absolute best Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales going live on Thanksgiving, November 22nd and running through Cyber Monday on November 26th. If you are keen on waiting for a third party Samsung deal, expect Amazon to have a variety of Samsung HDTV deals live throughout Black Friday week. Walmart and Target should begin their sales on Thanksgiving at 6 pm ET while Best Buy should start an hour earlier at 5pm ET on Thanksgiving. Expect Best Buy, Target and Walmart to carry the latest Samsung HDTVs and Galaxy devices.

Free Shipping - Samsung.com offers free shipping on many items, especially on HDTVs. However, this is a merchant where you will want to confirm the free shipping prior to purchase as not every item will, in fact, be free to ship. As always, Amazon will have free two-day shipping for Prime members, Best Buy and Target will have free shipping on every order and Walmart will have free two-day shipping on all orders over $35, which means all of your third-party Samsung purchases at these merchants should be free.

Samsung Cyber Monday - I expect Samsung.com’s Cyber Monday deals to begin on Thanksgiving. Do not expect Samsung.com to have a separate listing of deals specifically labelled for Cyber Monday. Instead, it will likely have a combined Black Friday and Cyber Monday period where its very best deals will be offered and last from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. Expect Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart to have separate Cyber Monday deals on Samsung products and I will analyse these in a later post when I preview Cyber Monday sales in-depth.

During Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 I will be extensively tracking the latest deals and leaks and publishing my recommendations every day. So be sure to bookmark my page, or hit the Follow button at the top of my page for instant updates when I publish and make sure you don’t miss out.

Amazon 'Black Friday' 2018 Ad Preview: Expected Echo, Fire, Kindle, HDTV Deals

If anyone can usurp Walmart’s Black Friday dominance, it’s Amazon. The online giant may be opening retailer stores, but its dominance is digital. Amazon’s Black Friday deals deliver a slew of sales on its popular Echo, Fire TV and Kindle ranges in particular and its consistent pattern of discounts in recent years means we can predict where you will find the biggest discounts in 2018…

Note: you can find my Black Friday 2018 guides for Walmart (here), Target (here), Best Buy (here), Apple (details) and Samsung (here).

Amazon's Best Black Friday Tech Deals Last Year

The best place to start predicting Amazon's Black Friday 2018 plan is the 5-page Black Friday ad posted last year on November 14th by BestBlackFriday.com. Here are some of the notable deals Amazon offered:

Amazon Echo Dot for $29.99 (save $20) - review deal
Amazon Echo for $79.99 (save $20) - review deal
Amazon Echo Plus for $119.99 (save $30) - review deal
Amazon Cloud Cam for $99.99 (save $20) - review deal
Amazon Fire 7 Tablet for $29.99 (save $20) - review deal
Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet for $49.99 (save $30) - review deal
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite for $89.99 (save $30) - review deal
Amazon Kindle for $49.99 (save $30) - review deal
Samsung UN55MU8000 55-inch 4K Ultra HD smart TV for $897.99 - review deal
Samsung UN65MU8000 65-inch 4K Ultra HD smart TV for $1,297.99 - review deal
So what do last year’s top deals mean for Amazon's Black Friday 2018 sales?

What To Expect From Amazon's Black Friday 2018 Sales

Thanks to Amazon’s historical Black Friday consistency, and some industry insider tips, I expect the following deals:

32-inch TV for $69.99
50-inch 4K TV for $154.99
Apple Watch Series 4 for $379 (save $20)
Nintendo Switch Bundle with 64GB Memory Card + $30 Nintendo Gift Card for $299.99
Nintendo Switch Console for $249.99 (save $50)
Microsoft Xbox One S 1TB Bundles Start at $219.99 (save $80)
Microsoft Xbox One X Consoles for $374.99 (save $125)
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite for $79.99 (save $40)
Amazon Fire TV Stick for $19.99 (save $20)
Amazon Echo Plus for $99.99 (save $50)
Yes, like Target and Walmart deals, Amazon will offer even better deals than last year. The Echo, Kindle and Fire TV ranges will be further reduced and I’m hotly tipped that there will be significantly more Black Friday deals on consoles.

In addition, I expect Amazon to offer perhaps the only Apple Watch Series 4 discount available and go crazy low on off-brand HDTVs.

Amazon Black Friday 2018 Tips:

Black Friday Ad Release - As an online retailer, Amazon does not release a traditional print Black Friday ad scan. That means it can wait as long as possible to reveal its deals, and it usually does. Last year, it released its deals via a press release very early in the morning on November 14th. For 2018, I expect Amazon to again reveal its deals on Wednesday, November 14th. Walmart, Best, Buy, and Target will have already posted their deals, which will allow Amazon to undercut them in many categories. Expect Amazon to feature its own line of electronics, including the Fire tablet, Kindle, Echo, and the various Alexa devices. It will also feature a selection of cheap TV deals, video game bundles, cameras, smartphones, laptops, and tablets.

Sale Days and Times  - As it always does, Amazon will most likely open its Black Friday Deals Store on November 1st. While this sale event usually offers a few solid deals, I recommend waiting until the week of Thanksgiving for the best prices. Actual Black Friday doorbusters will begin on Thanksgiving Day, and prices will be valid on some items throughout the weekend into Cyber Monday. Prices on certain Amazon devices and other deals could go live as early as a week before Black Friday on November 16th. Unfortunately, many of the top electronic doorbusters will not have scheduled start times, so you will have to watch Amazon's website throughout Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday.

Free Shipping - Unlike Target and Best Buy, Amazon does not have a desirable free shipping policy during Black Friday and the holiday season. As always, Prime members will enjoy free two-day shipping on all orders, but non-Prime members are out of luck for smaller orders. If prior years are any indication, Amazon will not waive its $25 minimum order size in order to qualify for free shipping. That is usually not a big deal if you are shopping for electronics, but it can be a problem if you are looking to spend less.

Amazon Cyber Monday - As it does for Black Friday, Amazon does not release an official Cyber Monday ad scan. Last year, it provided a sample of its Cyber Monday deals via a press release on November 24th. For 2018, I expect it to once again distribute a press release on November 24th detailing some of its top deals. The Cyber Monday sale is really just a continuation of the Black Friday event with Amazon devices being the featured items. New TV deals should be available, and some of the gaming bundles will be different.

I am extensively tracking Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 deals and publishing previews, ad leaks, the best offers daily, so bookmark my author page. Better yet, if you hit the Follow button at the top of my author page you will receive updates the moment I post new deals.

Apple 'Black Friday' 2018 Ad Preview: Expected iPad, iPhone, MacBook Deals

It may shun Black Friday itself, but thanks to huge discounts from the likes of Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart, deals on Apple AAPL -1.55% products will be some of the biggest doorbusters this year. And what Black Friday iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Watch sales can you expect? History gives us a very good idea…

Note: you can find my Black Friday 2018 guides for Walmart (here), Target (here) Amazon (here), Best Buy (here) and Samsung (here).

Best Apple Black Friday Deals Last Year

Apple did not have an official Black Friday ad last year, but the Best Buy Black Friday ad, Target Black Friday ad, and Walmart Black Friday ad, featured many of Apple's most popular products. Here are some of the most notable deals.

Apple iPad Mini 4 Wi-Fi 128GB for $274.99 (save $125) - review deal
Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch (save up to $150) - review deal
Apple MacBook Air 13.3-inch Display for $799.99 (save $200) - review deal
Apple MacBook Pro (save up to $250) - review deal
Save up to $200 off Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus with Qualified Activation - review deal
Free $250 Gift Card with Apple iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus with Qualified Activation - review deal
Free $300 Walmart Gift Card with purchase of Apple’s iPhone X, iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus - review deal
Apple Watch Series 3 + $90 Kohl's Cash for $329 (no discount) - review deal

What To Expect From Apple's Black Friday 2018 Sales

Black Friday sales on Apple devices follow a predictable format every year so, having analysed recent years and spoken with industry insiders, I expect the following deals in 2018:

Save $200 on the Apple iPhone XR with Qualified Activation
Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR - Up to $300 Gift Card when activating a new instalment plan
Apple MacBook Air 13.3-inch Display for $674 (save $325)
Apple MacBook 12-inch Display for $1,049 (save $250)
Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-inch Display for $1,049 (save $250)
Apple iPad 9.7-inch Display for $229 (save $100)
Apple iPad Mini 4 for $239 (save $160)
Apple Watch Series 4 with $30 Gift Card - $399.99 (no discount)
Apple Watch Series 4 for $379.99 (save $20)
With the budget-friendly iPhone XR only launching a month before Black Friday, I expect demand for both it and the breakout Apple Watch Series 4 to be red hot. Historically Walmart has offered the best iPhone deals, but Target may well offer one of the few discounts available on the Watch Series 4.

Black Friday Ad Release - The Apple Store has not had an official Black Friday ad scan in years, and it is unlikely to release one in 2018. The good news is plenty of other retailers feature Apple deals in their ads, including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Amazon, Sam's Club, Costco and eBay. Most of those ads will come out during the first two weeks of November, so it should be apparent soon what the baseline prices will be for the most popular Apple electronics. Expect the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR to be featured in a lot of the major ads, with gift card deals being the highlight.

Sale Days and Times - The Apple Store will likely begin its one-day Black Friday event on November 23rd, but this will be a sale to skip. If it is anything like previous years, the sale will only offer gift cards when paying full price on older models. For actual Apple deals, stores like Best Buy and eBay will have sales starting the week of Thanksgiving, with the top discounts starting on Thursday. Some of the deals will be available throughout the weekend into Cyber Week. While not as popular as the major retailers, B&H Photo Video and Adorama always have great deals on Apple products during Black Friday so keep them shortlisted.

Free Shipping - The Apple Store offers free shipping on all orders, but most other stores will also have free shipping on Apple products. Target and Best Buy will probably offer free shipping on all orders throughout the entire 2018 holiday season. Amazon and Walmart are unlikely to waive their free shipping minimums, but every Apple device is expensive enough to qualify.

Apple Cyber Monday - Apple did not have a Cyber Monday sale of its own last year, but many other retailers carried Apple products. I expect a similar format for Cyber Monday 2018, with Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and B&H Photo featuring an assortment of iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and Apple Watches. Most Cyber Monday ads and sale information will not come out until the week of Thanksgiving, but many of the Apple deals should be similar to Black Friday.

I am extensively tracking Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 deals and publishing the best offers daily, so be sure to bookmark my page, or hit the Follow button at the top of it for instant updates when I publish.

Walmart 'Black Friday' 2018 Ad Preview: Expected iPhone, Galaxy, PS4, Xbox, HDTV Deals

Every year Black Friday breaks records and Black Friday 2018 will be no exception. The big day is November 23rd, but the deals will begin far in advance with Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart WMT -0.24% and others all hoping to grab your attention. Their historical data gives away a lot, so here are my expectations for Walmart…

Note: you can find my Black Friday 2018 guides for Amazon (here), Target (here), Best Buy (here), Apple (details) and Samsung (here).

Walmart’s Best Black Friday Tech Deals Last Year

The best place to start predicting Walmart’s Black Friday 2018 moves is the 32-page Black Friday ad it posted last year on November 9th. Here are some of the top deals:

Free $300 Walmart Gift Card with purchase of Apple’s iPhone X, iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus - review deal
Free $300 Gift Card with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8, or Galaxy S8 Plus with activation - review deal
PlayStation 4 GranTurismo Sport VR Bundle for $299 (save $100) - review deal
Nintendo Switch Console with Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Con for $299 - review deal
Microsoft Xbox One X 1TB Gaming Console for $499 - review deal
Sharp 55-inch Class 4K (2160P) Smart LED TV for $298 - review deal
What does this mean for Walmart’s Black Friday 2018 sale?

What To Expect From Walmart’s Black Friday 2018 Sales

As a creature of habit, expect Walmart to update its Black Friday deals with the following options:

Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR - $300 Walmart Gift Card when activating a new instalment plan
Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+, Note9 - $350 Walmart Gift Card when activating a new instalment plan
Sony PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle - $274.99 (save $125)
Nintendo Switch Bundle (game or free memory card) - $299 (save circa $60)
Microsoft Xbox One X Bundle with $30 Walmart Gift Card - $399.99 (save $100)
55-inch 4K TV - $200 from a respectable brand
These deal templates have been huge sellers for Walmart in recent years and there’s no reason for it to move away from these tried and trusted headliners. The exception is Walmart’s headline HDTV deal which I understand will be almost $100 cheaper this year yet still be from a respected brand.

If you have any interest in buying one of these flagship items before Christmas, these are the deals to get. Hold your nerve and don’t jump the gun on anything inferior.

Walmart Black Friday 2018 Tips:

Black Friday Ad Release - As it does every year, Walmart is likely to wait as long as possible to post its 2018 Black Friday ad. Last year, Walmart posted its ad on November 9th at 12 am ET. For 2018, expect the ad at 12 am on Thursday, November 8. Walmart has historically waited until Best Buy and Target post their ads before showing its hand, and it is likely to follow the same strategy again. Expect an ad scan slightly over 30 pages filled with top electronics, including the iPhone XS, iPhone XR, Sony PlayStation 4 Pro, Microsoft Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch.

Sale Days and Times  - Historically, Walmart has started its in-store Black Friday sale on Thanksgiving Day at 6 pm. While it could open slightly earlier this year, I expect Walmart will stick to the traditional 6 pm opening time on Thanksgiving Day for in-store sales, but it will likely offer online deals for the duration of Thursday. The in-store sale will run the entire night into Friday, and pre-Black Friday online deals may actually begin as early as Monday on Thanksgiving week.

Free Shipping - While many retailers are likely to offer free shipping on all orders for the duration of the 2018 holiday season, Walmart is unlikely to budge. It currently offers free two-day shipping on most orders of $35 or more. Competitors Target and Best Buy are likely to offer free shipping on all orders with no minimum this holiday season, so you should avoid Walmart for online orders if you are spending less than $35.

Walmart Cyber Monday - While the Black Friday ad will appear in early November, expect Walmart’s Cyber Monday deals to be kept under wrap until the last minute. Walmart has not actually released an official Cyber Monday ad scan in a few years, and it probably will not do so in 2018. That means deals will not be announced until Black Friday or even the Saturday before Cyber Monday. The good news is many of Walmart's Black Friday deals will carry over into Cyber Monday so you will have a second chance if you miss anything on Thanksgiving or Friday.

I will be extensively tracking Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 deals and publishing the best offers daily, so be sure to bookmark or hit the Subscribe button on my page.

Target 'Black Friday' 2018 Ad Preview: Expected Apple, Google, Samsung Deals

While Walmart Black Friday deals often dominate the holiday sales season, Target TGT -2.25% has been growing fast and - more importantly - it has delivered some of the best deals of any retailer in recent years. With a stampede expected to secure Target’s best Black Friday 2018 bargains, the good news is a little research gets you a long way...

Note: you can find my Black Friday 2018 guides for Amazon (here), Walmart (here), Best Buy (here), Apple (details) and Samsung (here).

Target's Best Black Friday Tech Deals Last Year

Like Walmart, the best way to get an insight into Target's Black Friday 2018 plans is the 36-page Black Friday ad it posted last year on November 6th. These were the standout deals:

Westinghouse 55-inch Smart UHD 4K TV for $249.99 - review deal
Microsoft Xbox One S 500GB with $25 Gift Card for $189.99 (save $90) - review deal
urBeats Earphones for $49.99 (save $50) - review deal
Google Home Mini with $10 Target Gift Card for $29 (save $20) - review deal
Free $250 Gift Card with Apple iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus with Qualified Activation - review deal
Sony PS4 1 TB Console for $199.99 (save $100) - review deal
Apple Watch Series 3 for $329.99 (no discount) - review deal
So what can we learn from this?

What To Expect From Target's Black Friday 2018 Sales

The beauty of Target is its a creature of habit. Consequently, last year’s deals in combination with insider tips and the next generation of new consumer tech means I expect the following deals:

55-inch 4K TV - $190 from an off-brand
Microsoft Xbox One X Bundle with $25 Target Gift Card - $399.99 (save $100)
Google Home Mini with $10 Target Gift Card - $24 (save $25)
Free $250 Gift Card with Apple iPhone XS, Apple iPhone XS Max, or Apple iPhone XR with Qualified Activation
Sony PS4 Pro Bundle with $25 Gift Card - $274.99 (save $125)
Apple Watch Series 4 with $30 Gift Card - $399.99 (no discount)
Yes, Target is going to up its game from last year. Its doorbuster HDTV deal should be even better for Black Friday 2018, as will its Google Home Mini offer while the iPhone, Apple Watch and console deals will be upgraded to the latest models.

Walmart’s expected Black Friday 2018 deals may have the edge on iPhones, but these two are set for a colossal battle. Especially with Target having the edge on delivery fees (see below).

Target Black Friday 2018 Tips:

Black Friday Ad Release - Out of the major big-box stores, Target is likely to be the first to post the 2018 iteration of its Black Friday ad. Last year, this was in the middle of the night on Monday, November 6th. Expect this year's ad to come out during the early morning hours of Monday, November 5th, which will be the first unveiling of the anticipated 'Big Three' Black Friday ads in Target, Best Buy, and Walmart. As usual, Target's ad will set the tone for many prices on top electronics this year, and some of the prices will likely be repeated in Walmart and Best Buy's ads. Expect the 2018 Target Black Friday ad to be 36 to 40 pages and include a ton of electronics. A few notable items to look out for include the Microsoft Xbox One X, the newest Apple iPhones, Google Home Mini, GoPro cameras, the Apple Watch Series 4, and an assortment of 4K TVs and home theater essentials. Target is also known to include free gift cards with many of its top doorbusters.

Sale Days and Times - Target's in-store Black Friday sale has actually started at 6 pm on Thanksgiving in recent years, and I am expecting the same in 2018. While some retailers are opening their doors earlier on Thanksgiving, stores like Target, Best Buy, and Walmart have not given in to the pressure to open earlier. Online deals will be available the entire day on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, with many prices extending throughout the weekend into Cyber Monday. On the day of its ad release, Target has traditionally offered early access shopping for some of its Black Friday deals. Expect an event like that again on November 5th or whatever day Target ultimately releases its ad.

Free Shipping - Over the past few years, Target has offered free shipping with no minimum spend for all orders during the holiday season. Along with Best Buy, Target has the best free shipping terms among the major retailers, and I expect that trend to continue in 2018. Compared to Amazon and Walmart, Target's free shipping deal is much better. For Amazon, non-Prime members must spend at least $25 in order to enjoy free shipping. Walmart shoppers must spend at least $35 in order to qualify for free two-day shipping.

Target Cyber Monday - Most retailers do not have official Cyber Monday ad scans anymore, but Target still has its own version of a Cyber Week ad. Last year, Target waited until Black Friday weekend to release its Cyber Week ad, and it is likely to wait until the last possible moment this year. Expect a brief Cyber Monday ad detailing only the top deals. Target traditionally offers a coupon for 15% off the entire store on Cyber Monday, so that will make Target one of the top destinations in 2018 for Cyber Monday deals.
